CURTAIN CALL CHOREOGRAPHY
Curtain Call Choreography is a musical theater dance workshop series. Each month, CLT will bring in a guest choreographer to focus on a specific style of dance through the lens of musical theater. Instructors will select a musical to teach one number from, working with participants on learning and refining the specific dance style that the musical number works with.
This month's theme is called
"YOU'VE GOT RHYTHM!"!
The class will focus on basic tap technique and short combinations, followed by a longer piece of choreography to "I've Got Rhythm" from CRAZY FOR YOU. The style will be primarily Broadway tap.

Kate Whalen has been dancing since the ripe old age of 4, studying Tap, Ballet, and Musical Theater Jazz. She studied with Spotlight Vermont, the Vermont Conservatory of Ballet, and the University of Vermont. She has taken master tap classes at Steps in New York City as well as with Lisa Hopkins, Jeannie Hill, Josh Hilberman, and Michelle Dorrance. Kate taught Tap, Ballet, and Musical Theater jazz at Spotlight Vermont for 14 years as well as Tap at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. Kate relocated to the Portland area in 2019. Since then, she has been teaching Tap at Collective Motion Arts Center and Casco Bay Movers. In addition to teaching, Kate has always been very active in theatre beginning with her first show in 1985. She has performed on stage in countless shows and has enjoyed being a director and choreographer, most proudly taking on both of those roles for Lyric Theatre Company’s Mary Poppins in Vermont. In Maine, she has choreographed and directed shows with Lyric Music Theater and Portland Players. She has also performed with both groups as well as with Schoolhouse Arts Center and City Theater. Kate is thrilled to share her love of dance, especially the joy of Tap, with Community Little Theatre!
